Who told you?

Adenike Morounke Adebola

I used to imagine the Temptation of our Lord Jesus Christ this way - Jesus was sitting (maybe on a stone or something like that), hungry. Suddenly a creature appears out of the blues with black clothes, horns etc... Then, the creature said all the things the Bible attributed to the devil.

As I think about this deeply, I have a different picture - Jesus is still sitting on the stone in the wilderness, hungry, hot. Then, A THOUGHT came to Him saying 'If You are the Son of God...'

That brings me to the subject of thoughts. Your thoughts are actually the voice of someone speaking to you - the Holy Spirit or the devil. Who is speaking to you? Who has your attention? Whose voice are you listening to? Why are you where you are? Why do you live where you do? Why are you in that school? Who told you that you are whatever it is you're telling everyone you are?

I was chatting with a young lady and she told me she was dealing with a particular 'spiritual' challenge. I asked her who told her that and what scripture the person quoted to back his/her claim. She said a lot of people had told her the same thing but none had backed it up with scriptures.

It's interesting how we have enough time to chat on BBM/WhatsApp/Facebook (add your own) but are too busy to take time out to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Meanwhile, He knows the paths of life and is eager to show us (Psalm 16:11).

God asked Adam and Eve 'Who told you that you were naked?' Today, I ask you  'Who told you that you need to violate your supplier's policy to get ahead in business? Who told you that you need to falsify your age to get a job? Who told you your long awaited change will never come? Who told you that you need to take matters into your own hands?'

Answer for yourself and see what adjustments you need to make.

Have a blessed and productive day.
